Rochester scores 7 runs in 6th inning to bury Braves
Waseca held to two hits in seven-inning setback

ROCHESTER - The Rochester Royals exploded for nine runs in its final two at-bats to blast the Waseca Braves 11-1 in seven innings at Rochester July 28.

The loss dropped Waseca to 13-10 for the summer, 4-3 on the road. It was the third time the Braves have been 10-runned this year.

Caleb Srp's error gave the Royals an unearned run in the first inning.

Waseca tied the game briefly with a run in the third inning. Three walks and Kelvin Nelson's sacrifice fly tied the score.

Consecutive two-out doubles by Dave Adams and Darrin Schmidt got that run back for the Royals in the bottom of the third inning.

It remained 2-1 until the bottom of the sixth inning. Rochester batted 13 hitters and knocked Srp from the mound in scoring seven times.

Rochester collected six hits in the inning, and also received help from a Waseca error.

Joe Matti laced a run-scoring double and number nine hitter Jim Strain a two-run single.

Two hits, a pair of walks and a couple of wild pitches helped Rochester score the two runs it needed to end the game early in the seventh inning.

Srp took the loss, falling to 5-4 for the year. He was roughed up for 10 hits and five earned runs in five and two-third innings. Srp walked six, hit a batter and struck out one.

Jim Loonan relieved, allowing two earned runs and three hits in one inning. He walked two and fanned one.

Matti and Schmidt paced the Royals with three hits apiece. Schmidt scored twice and drove in three runs.

Strain was 2-2 and walked three times.

John Corcoran held the Braves to one run and one hit over the first six innings. He walked three and struck out four.

Cody Jones hurled the final innings, giving up one hit and fanning two.

Nelson's sixth inning bunt single and Steve Hovland's base hit in the seventh inning were the only Waseca hits.

The Braves made four errors and stranded four base runners.

Rochester had runners all evening, stranding 14 men on the base paths. The Royals had one error in the field.
