Two playoff losses end New Richland season
Reds outscored 21-7 in BE, Condors defeats

Two 13-60 League Black Division losses brought an end to the New Richland Reds baseball season.

The Reds suffered a tough 3-1 loss to league champ Blue Earth in its opening game.

The Cleveland Condors exploded for 14 runs in the final three innings to eliminate the Reds 14-6 in the second round.

New Richland ended its season with an 8-17 record.

Blue Earth

WINNEBAGO - League champ Blue Earth, which went 13-0 in league play, handed the Reds a 7-1 setback in Winnebago July 25. BE had defeated the Reds 3-1 and 3-2 during the regular season.

Lee Hodges kept the NR offense in check the entire game, allowing just five hits.

Blue Earth took a 1-0 lead in the second inning on two singles and a couple of hit batters by NR pitcher Vinnie VanEnglenburg.

A two-run single by Aaron Wendt increased Blue Earth's lead to 3-0 in the fifth inning.

Hodges helped himself with a two-run double in the sixth inning, upping the Pirate lead to 5-0.

Wendt belted a solo home run and Justin Schnaible delivered a run-scoring single in the seventh inning for a 7-0 BE lead.

Chris Somage led off the eighth inning with a solo home run, accounting for the only Reds run.

The rest of the day belonged to Hodges. He walked one and struck out eight.

Colton Schlaak had two of the four New Richland hits. Somage and Seth Tukua had the other safeties.

The Reds committed one error and stranded five base runners.

VanEnglenburg suffered the loss, hurling a complete game. He gave up 11 hits, issued two walks and fanned nine.

Schnaible was a perfect 4-4 with two doubles, a run scored and a RBI.

Wendt had three hits, scored twice and drove in a pair of runs. Kane Malo contributed two hits for the winners.

The Pirates made one miscue and left eight runners stranded.

Cleveland Condors

CLEVELAND - The Cleveland Condors erupted for 14 runs in its final three at-bats to eliminate the Reds by a 14-6 margin at Cleveland July 26.

NR appeared to be on its way to play another day as it held a 5-0 lead after five innings.

An RBI single by Dan Fitterer and a two-out error by the Condors helped New Richland to a 3-0 lead in the second inning.

Aaron Gilliland delivered a two-run double in the fifth inning.

After throwing five shutout innings, Tukua could not retire a batter in the sixth inning. Tony Schlaak relieved and all three batters he faced reached base and scored. VanEnglenburg came on to stop the bleeding after the Condors took a 7-5 lead.

NR pulled within a run in the seventh inning on a VanEnglenburg single, a stolen base and Adam Warnke's base hit.

However, the Condors pulled away with three runs in the seventh inning and four in the eighth.

Tukua pitched the first five innings, allowing four hits and three runs. He walked one, hit a batter and struck out two.

Tony Schlaak was charged with the loss. He pitched to three men and all three got hits and scored.

VanEnglenburg pitched the final three innings, giving up eight runs and six hits. He walked one, hit three and fanned three.

Struck, Ahearn and M. Stauff all had three hits for Cleveland.

M. Stauff went the distance on the mound to earn the win. He gave up six hits, handed out one free pass and struck out six.

Gilliland laced three singles and a pair of RBI to pace New Richland.

Chris Somage collected two hits for the Reds. VanEnglenburg, Tony Schlaak, Warnke, Tukua and Tony somage chipped in with one hit apiece. VanEnglenburg scored twice.

Cleveland survived seven errors and stranded five base runners.

The Reds committed four miscues and left six runners on the bases.
